Moderating Comments

I’m considering turning on the ‘include conversation on page’ feature, with a comment box. And micro.blog is a generally a pretty amicable community, but it does open up comments to Mastodon and Bluesky. WHich is great to have open-form commenting. But, should there be… hostile elements, do we have a way to remove individual comments from appearing on the blog itself? Fediverse means that one can’t moderate another’s post, but my hesitancy is opening up my site to the chaos of fediverse.

Yes and no. No, there’s no built in way but yes, if you’re comfortable with CSS or JavaScript you can build your own solution. Update: See Mantons reply below.

We do have a way to hide comments on your blog now. On the Posts page, click “Curate Replies” next to a post and you can select posts to hide on your blog.

This doesn’t actually remove the reply, though. If someone looks on the Micro.blog timeline, they can still see the reply. It hides the reply from the conversation list on your own blog.

What?! I had totally missed this (or forgotten about it). Awesome!

Excellent. This is what I was looking for.
