Hi @manton and everyone. Long time lurker, kind of playing around with mb to see how it suits my needs. So far, so very good. Some of the things that I think I need seem to just be ptsd from traditional social media / internet.
However… I have this nagging need to password protect a part of my blog. I’d like to be able to include a link on my Ig/Fb/etc socials to my Micro.blog for anyone interested to access but then have a category / page (or redirect to another blog as I’m on premium anyway) so I can share stuff with family and friends overseas.
This was brought up before – and I’ve tried to do the whole Staticrypt thing as per @sod Sven’s suggestion but my brain melted. Me speak no tech
Anyway, just wanted to put this on the radar. Maybe there is a way and I just haven’t come across it?
There is not currently any well supported way to do this without potentially doing a lot of technical work yourself. Micro.blog is fundamentally built around building open web blogs, and the machinery for private space would be very non-trivial, both technically and in terms of product scope creep. While I’m not the person building MB, I’d say that it’s fairly unlikely this will be addressed robustly soon and probably means that kind of blog (or at least those private posts) would be more appropriate for another service.
One possibly solution could be to use Strata for private notes and use Micro.blog premium for the newsletter feature. You can then add your friends and family to the newsletter but not publicly show a signup for the newsletter anywhere. Then you could delete the content of the newsletter once it’s prepared for draft (and set a long lag there) and fill in the newsletter with your private Strata notes. That feels like too much work to me, but that’d be the best way IMO to use MB to do private sharing of some kind.

Bummer but from principle / philosophy of product it makes a lot of sense.
I’ve considered Strata and/or the newsletter too – thanks for the reply, I didn’t get far with these tools for this use case, but your suggestions are giving me ideas!
