Using APIs to Build an Archive Page

I have been exploring building a new archive page for my blog - so I can style it further.

I got this far: My Archive // đź’¬ John Philpin

But it is only the latest 25 (or so) posts

I have tried to pull the total archive - and whatever I do seems to fail.

Seperately @jsonbecker has his working - but of course this is on a custom theme. Is there a way to achieve what I want without moving to a custom theme?

Related - Jason has already pointed out the load of pulling the entire archive without pagination if i intend to pull extracts from the post - and yes - agree - still a lot of exploration - but first is what I am trying to do at all possible?

If not - is there a way to modify the CSS of the default archive page so years, months and days are clearly delineated?

I only know how to do this with custom stuff, but what theme do you use? Most do pagination using a short code like {{ partial “pagination” . }} – assuming you’re doing this as a “page” versus custom there may be away, but that’s as much advice as I can offer since I just do it directly.

Thank you Jason - I think I am going to pull in my horns for now - not ready for custom builds at the momant.
