Use Micro.blog Mastodon profile only for secondary blog

Hi there! Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, I might just not be thinking of the right search terms.

I’m new to Micro.blog, and am in the process of relocating here from Wordpress as well as setting up a new blog for a side-project. I already have a Mastodon account that I’m happy with, and I have my main blog set to cross-post to that account. However, I do like the fact that Micro.blog has its own Mastodon instance, and I want to use that for my side-project. So, there are four entities in question:

  • Main, existing Mastodon profile on an independent server (Main Masto)
  • Main Micro.blog, replacing my Wordpress (Main Micro)
  • Secondary Micro.blog, new project (Second Micro)
  • Micro.blog Mastodon profile (Second Masto)

I want the cross-posting to happen like this:
Main Micro → Main Masto
Second Micro → Second Masto

However, what I’m getting is this:

Main Micro → Main Masto AND Second Masto
Second Micro → Second Masto

Posting to either of my blogs results in a cross-post to Second Masto. Since I can’t log into the Second Masto profile directly, I can’t remove the unwanted cross-posts.

Is it possible to prevent my main blog from being cross-posted to my Micro.blog Mastodon profile? Or should I just close the Mastodon profile that comes with my Micro.blog account, and set up a separate Mastodon profile using a different service?

First, sorry if this might be a little bit of hairsplitting, but I think it’s important to know.

Micro.blog is not a Mastodon instance. They are totally different software that happen to speak the same protocol (ActivityPub) and they are both part of the fediverse. Micro.blog lacks features that Mastodon has (likes, boosts, and follower count) and vice versa.

Again, sorry, I just wanted to make this totally clear to anyone ending up in the thread. Now, to your questions.

Any post that shows up on your Micro.blog timeline (https://micro.blog/zoyander) will also be available on your fediverse timeline (@texts@shavian.zoyander.cc). They are the same and not technically cross-posting.

If you don’t want your Main Micro to show up on what you call Second Masto you have to remove the Main Micro feed from the Edit Sources & Cross-posting page. But if you do so, you will also lose the cross-posting to your Main Masto for that blog.

No, not without also losing the cross-posting to your Main Masto.

Yep, or you could create an additional Micro.blog account. So you have one for your Main Micro with cross-posting set up and no own fediverse presence. And the other Micro.blog account is for your Second Micro and fediverse presence set up.

I know this is a lot and quite complicated, but I hope it makes somewhat sense.
