Hello everyone,
I’m reaching out because I’m experiencing an issue with my Micro.blog account. My name shows up on the profile page for for domains I do not own, specifically:
This is bizarre. I have a feeling there were some incoming webmentions that Micro.blog tried to create domain names for, and somehow they were associated with your profile. Likely something with Microformats markup that was either wrong or Micro.blog interpreted incorrectly.
Jason, if you can’t offer any help, I’d appreciate it if you could refrain from commenting. I’m seeking assistance with a legitimate issue, not sarcasm. Thanks.
I’m not saying you were spamming, I’m saying the consequence of your name and image being mixed with a URL that is not you makes the content look like it’s spamming.
Anyway, I’ll refrain from responding to you since most times I have, despite my trying to be helpful, you’ve been less than kind.
Ideally, I’d like the micro.blog/islandinthenet.com profile to be either deleted or merged with my primary khurtwilliams account. Since I don’t have permission to remove the extra profile myself, I’d appreciate your help with this.
Additionally, as part of testing the Webmention functionality between my WordPress site and Micro.blog, I’ve created a temporary test post at islandinthenet.com/test. This post will only be live for a few days, as I plan to remove it once I confirm everything is working correctly.
Please let me know if you need any further information. I appreciate your help and look forward to your guidance on resolving this issue.
I can delete the islandinthenet.com profile, but first let me explain a little more about how this works. These domain name profiles are created in a couple cases, including if someone wants to follow your blog directly in Micro.blog, or when there are webmentions and Micro.blog isn’t sure if there’s a Micro.blog account that is using that domain name already.
Long-term, I do want to automatically merge these domain name profiles with your regular Micro.blog username. Ideally these would be like aliases for your real account, so if someone follows islandinthenet.com it would be the same as following @khurtwilliams.
Apologies for the delayed response—I really appreciate your explanation. That helps clarify why the extra profile was created.
Now that I think about it, my primary blog domain is https://islandinthenet.com, so that might have contributed to the issue. I can see how Micro.blog might have assumed it needed its own profile.
Since I use @khurtwilliams as my main account, I’d love to keep everything under that username. If it’s still possible, please go ahead and merge the profiles.
