Trouble Locating an image at the top of a post

I’m a new micro.blog user, and I am having an awful experience trying to get my posts to put the image first in my post. Is there a simpler way to do this?

I want to make longer, titled posts that consist of a 500px square followed by a short article around 1500-2000 words. This posting style works well for places I cross-post to.

No matter how or when I add the image in the web portal, it always defaults to adding to the bottom of my post. I use the web portal on iOS and the iOS microblogging app.

Trying to reference an image I upload through img HTML tags is highly inconsistent across the app and website. I’ve had some (inconsistent) success by opening my already published post in the iOS app, where it actually displays the image html, and moving the image html from the bottom of the post to the top of the post. But for some reason, when I simply code the image html of an uploaded image this way from the beginning (before publishing post), it automatically amends the image URL to something that does work, and it seems like I cannot always fix it, as it sometimes keep re-amending it. Seems like some sort of inconsistency across the web portal and iOS App.

It’s already really frustrating that I cannot access the same posting features on the web portal and on the iOS app, because I want to include categories, which don’t show up in the app when I’m creating a post. So I have to use both to create my post.

I’d love it if I’m just missing something obvious as new user. Please tell me of any fixes you know.

If you want to control placement versus doing social-media style attachment image posting, the best way is to upload the image first via uploads, then putting in the HTML/Markdown reference to that file into the content. That has always worked for me.

You can add categories from iOS– in the new post screen, hit the gear on the top right of the keyboard area next to your blog name – that’ll list categories to select as well as other posting options.

Thanks, that’s helpful. I’ll try the html and markdown codes.

I find it odd that this is the suggested solution and has been for a couple of years at least. Is there no way to modify the way the content of the post is generated? A simple preference to place the images at the top would seem to be the best solution. Though I’d also like a way to show the alt text as a caption too.

Any app that posts to Micro.pub can be used and makes different choices. There used to be a few more than there are currently.

The goal of posting from mobile is to provide a social media like experience. If you want a more blog writing experience, there are alternatives but few that are phone focused.
