Sources options

Hiya! I’m having trouble grokking the meaning of the two options when adding sources:

Add posts to Micro.blog timeline
Import posts to blog: zoyander.micro.blog

I understand that if I choose the second option, micro.blog will automatically create a post on my blog, which is found at blog.zoyander.cc.
But I don’t understand the first option. Is this the option I should choose if I just want to follow someone else’s RSS feed? Or is this a soft way of cross-posting, i.e. I can use the first option to first review and approve any posts generated from the imported source?

You understand the second option correctly. The first option is not for other people’s RSS feeds, though. It’s still for your own posts, but it adds the posts directly to the Micro.blog timeline and your Micro.blog profile page, without copying the posts to your blog.

The best way to think about it is that the “social” parts of Micro.blog (timeline, profiles, following people) are maintained separately from the “blog hosting” parts. Sources link the two together.

Ohhh I see! Thanks so much.

So, the first option publishes new posts here: Micro.blog - @zoyander

Whereas the second option publishes new posts here: https://blog.zoyander.cc
and here: https://zoyander.micro.blog
and presumably also here: Micro.blog - @zoyander

Right. Another way to think about it is that your profile page and the posts people see when they follow you is a combination of everything on the Sources page. So you can feed in multiple feeds. By default, most people have just one feed, their blog on Micro.blog or Micro.one. (For Micro.one folks, there is no Sources page in fact.)
