Newsletter not sending

Today, I received the preview for my weekly digest newsletter at 9am. I setup the newsletter and it was scheduled to go out 2 hours later, but it never went out and is still sitting in open status in the newsletter section.

Is anyone else having problems with the newsletter sending?

Mine ended up going out something like 12 hours after the preview notice.

I know Manton was looking into the bug that made the newsletters come later and later….

My preview actually came around the appointed time, again, but the newsletter was worse.

Thanks Todd. It did eventually go out, 11 hours late. Weird.

It’s been 18 hours now and mine still hasn’t gone out.

Not sure if I managed to configure my newsletter sending somehow wrong, but Sunday newsletter didn’t go out last week (and I don’t see anythings scheduled here either):

That view also shows red notice about ā€œThe previous category for this newsletter no longer exists.ā€ Not sure how to ignore / dismiss that?

What timezone is the sending using btw?

Cheers!

Newsletters are sent in your local time zone. It creates the draft at 9am and then sends it 30 minutes later (or whatever your setting is set to).

I think that error message points to what happened. If you have newsletters set to use a category, but then the category gets deleted, it leaves newsletters in a weird state and the emails won’t go out. I’ve reset your newsletter so that the error message goes away.

Not sure the best way to handle this… Perhaps along with the error message we need an ā€œokay, don’t use the categoryā€ button to confirm the change. I was trying to avoid the situation where you delete a category and then suddenly many more posts start being sent than you intended.

Thanks Manton! Yeah, that makes sense as that category indeed is a goner.

I think some acknowledgement that the previous category is missing and a way to dismiss that notice would be sufficient. Perhaps ask the user to double check that their upcoming newsletter posts are categorised correctly just to be on the safe side
