Movies page is broken...? (fixed, see last post)

I noticed an error showing in my logs:

Error: Error building site: "content/2023/05/22/205356.md:2:1": EOF looking for end YAML front matter delimiter

I wasn’t sure what this is about, so I looked for the posts from that day and found one post in my Movies categories which didn’t belong there. I went ahead and removed the “Movies” categories from it so it and updated.

Once I’ve done that, I noticed that my Uploaded section repopulated all my movie posters - MB basically “re-grabbed” my movie reviews from letterboxd and now each movie post shows up twice.

What’s more, there’s now another post at the top of the movie category, “Thinking about organizing my RSS stuff,” which was never given that category. No matter how many times I uncheck “movies” from this post, it re-adds it the movies categories.

My guess is that something’s messed up within the theme, but I don’t know how. I didn’t change anything in the theme itself recently. I tried to rebuild the blog, but it sticks. How can I fix this?

Redifning the problems:

  1. My post “Thinking about organizing my RSS stuff” is in the Movies categories, and I can’t change that. Whenever I unckeck “movies” as a category in the web or macOS client, it simply puts the check mark back in there, and the post is not removed.

  2. My Movies category now contains every movie post (these are pulled form rss feed or letterboxd) twice. Is there a way to mark all the duplicates and mass-delete them?

For number 1, could it be that you have a filter set up that automatically puts the post in the movie category?

There might be third-party apps (like MarsEdit, maybe?) that support mass deletion, but it’s not possible in the official clients.

This is crazy. I manually deleted the duplicates in the movie category, and then rebuild the blog. It seems it goes through different servers and deletes the MD files there (see how some movies show up on different servers). I’m not sure what causes that and why this happens. Waiting for it to finish.

@sod yes, my movies cateogies are taken from letterboxd feed. That’s how they get posted to my blog. I’ve had similar issues before, but usually it was a single post, not a whole rebuild of my entire movie category like that.

Fixed…

  1. My fault, (user dance error). and I finally realized why - basically what @sod said. While this post was not on letterboxd, I included a link to my profile there. That link contains the URL which triggers the filter to put it into Movies. I removed the links, all is fine now.

  2. After manually deleting all the duplicates and watching them removed from both Broggie and Holiday, the issue is resolved. I’m not sure why it was duplicated like that, but with rebuilding the blog fixed it, though it took a while.
