Is the Micro.blog.app meant to start from the unread timeline posts and isn’t, or am I doing it wrong? Glueon seems to work better, if not perfectly.

No, the Micro.blog app does not currently preserve the timeline position. It starts over at the top whenever you reload. We have a mechanism for syncing the timeline position across apps but haven’t finished implementing it everywhere yet.
It’s the deal breaker for me. Gluon does make a fist of it, but no count as with Mastodon apps like Icecubes.
