Mastodon post not showing up on profile

My Mastodon posts, i.e. replies to other peoples posts on Mastodon using my linked (non-micro.blog) mastodon account, don’t show up on my profile (micro.blog/mrg) while the corresponding Bluesky posts do.

Is this normal? (I’m a complete newb so chances are I’ve misunderstood how things work).

If you’re replying on Mastodon with your account there, those replies don’t currently show up on your profile automatically. You can add them by adding the RSS feed for your Mastodon account to the Sources page.

This does make me wonder if we should do that automatically, or show a prompt to enable it. I’ll have to think more about that.

Ah, I see, the default should probably be the same for both Mastodon and Bluesky, it is a little confusing that the Bluesky posts appear but not the Mastodon ones.

Another quirk I’ve noticed is that some of my reposts from Bluesky appears on my profile but they look like it’s me replying (@-mentioning) to the person I reposted. I think it happens when I repost something that is part of a thread because then the post will start with a @-mention (often the authors of the thread mentioning themselves).

Hmm, this is confusing me, I just want to make sure I understand.

I have enabled (‘Copy posts and get replies’) my mastodon and bluesky accounts in ‘Sources’. Would that also copy posts (and replies?) I make directly on mastodon/bluesky to my micro.blog timeline?

If so, it doesn’t seem to work right now, I just posted on mastodon but nothing showed up on my micro.blog timeline. (I had the RSS feed for my mastodon account added to ‘Sources’ in my MB settings but I removed it before posting because I had problems with duplicates and I wanted to test with a minimal configuration first.)

Sometimes I want to post directly on masto/bsky because I want the posts over there to look ‘native’, e.g. I might want a link preview card on bluesky which you don’t get when you post through the MB interface?

We do now bring in your own replies even if they are made on Mastodon or Bluesky. I replied on Bluesky to something yesterday and it did show up on Micro.blog too.

Perhaps what’s happening is similar to another report of delays. Can you let us know if the reply still hasn’t appeared? And if so, can you share a link to the reply and I can dig into why it’s not being downloaded?

I’m not sure if posts are handled the same way as replies?

About ten hours ago I posted (‘top level’ posts, not replies) to Mastodon and Bluesky. The post on mastodon was copied to my MB timeline (this might be because although I deleted my masto RSS feed from my MB sources, I only waited a few seconds before posting).

The Bluesky post was not copied to MB. The replies from other people on Bluesky were copied over (I didn’t get any replies on Mastodon).

A few hours ago I posted similar ‘native’, ‘top level’ posts on Bluesky and Mastodon, neither of them were copied over. I didn’t get any replies to them, but I replied to my own post on Mastodon about minutes 30 ago and my reply hasn’t appeared on MB yet. Here’s a link to the reply mrg: ""For the "Zero Day" crew, confronting such a sens…" - Mastodon @ SDF

Perhaps I should just post through the MB interface (and get both Mastodon and Bluesky comments on the same post), but most of the time I want the preview card on Bluesky.

Sorry for the confusion. Posts that are not replies are ignored by Micro.blog. The way Micro.blog brings in your replies from Bluesky or Mastodon is designed to complete the loop for cross-posting.

For regular posts, adding the Mastodon or Bluesky RSS feed is still the best way to add those posts to the timeline.

Thank you very much, I think I get it now.

It was this sentence at the top of the Sources page that threw me off "Micro.blog downloads posts from these feeds and combines them into your Micro.blog profile. "

I’ll test with the RSS feeds again, but I think I got duplicates from Mastodon when I posted using the MB interface.

The reason don’t always crosspost from MB is that I want the posts to look as ‘native’ as possible on the other platforms (mainly the preview card on Bluesky).

If you get duplicates, let me know and we should be able to fix that. With the “same” posts coming from multiple sources now, merging them has been a challenge, but it’s doable.
