Hi everyone!
Just wanted to let you know, that I launched 2 new Micro.blog plugins focussed on privacy enhanced usage of the service. Both are available in the plugin directory.
The first one is a fork of the YouTube plugin from @cesco. By default it just loads the video thumbnail (image) from the Youtube server and after a click on the image, it loads the embedded videos from youtube-nocookie.com. This helps to improve the privacy of visitors and also improves loading times, as just one connection to YouTube is made.
The second one is probably a bit nerdy, but I was trying to build the most privacy friendly way to track some usage data, without needing to host a analytics service yourself. As I already have good experiences with GoatCounter with other projects (its free, its privacy-focussed and it never cuts of data), I was building something around using just a tracking pixel and a inline JS for tracking visitors. This comes with some downsides, but if you just want to know which pages are the most popular ones and where your visitors are coming from, it’s more than enough.
@manton any idea to include light weight web analytics directly in Micro.blog?
I hope some of you might find them useful. If you find any bugs or have some ideas to improve them, feel free to reach out.
btw is there a way to see, how many people are using a plugin?
