Has anyone tried connecting an OPML and having Inkwell work and then removing the OPML and putting in a totally different OPML?
Do the new feeds show?
For me the old feed sources are still there.
Even deleted the app completely - to ‘delete data’ - and reinstalled - but old feed sources still there.
How actually do you import/connect an OPML file?
Aaah yes - now there is a question! NOT in Inkwell - over in the Micro.Blog dashboard.
Micro.blog - about half way down - look for ‘ Feed subcriptions’ ’
Thought I might ask again …
When I originally set up inkwell I put in a big OPML file which was clearly too much and that’s okay.
Since then I have set up a much smaller OPML that should be a lot easier to manage.
I’ve been trying to work out why inkwell won’t talk to that.
I’ve deleted the old OPML from the server and also pointed to the new smaller OPML. Done everything I can to remove the old from inkwell - including using everything I can think of to completely flush it, logged out, reset, deleted the old OPML file.
Yet it still is finding feeds that I Know are not in the new opml.
When i put the new url in a browser - it all validates.
Any thoughts? Might only be @manton that can crack this one?
Are you using the “Import OPML” button in https://micro.ink on the web, or the “OPML Sync” option in Micro.blog? Sounds like the latter option… It doesn’t currently work that way. It doesn’t delete the old feeds if you change the OPML file. For now you’ll have to manually remove the old feeds.
Automatically removing the old feeds that are no longer in the OPML file does make sense, though. I’ll look into making that change.
yes - opml synch option - that is where I WANT to be - and thought that this was it - clearly not - then again - nobody else seems to be there either.
When experimenting with different readers the import /export routine gets tedious - and if there is no bulk deleting - a non starter. my assumption was killing the opml kills the feed - but it seems what you are saying is that you are simply importing.
So that means if I imported 10 feeds - and then deleted two in the ‘remote opml’ and added another 5 - and resynched i now have the original 10 plus a new 5 and the 2 i deleted from the remote opml will stay in inkwell until i also delete them there.
Can’t really see what the difference is between putting the remote OPML URL in place versus just importing.
Surely we should have at least ‘bulk delete’ or ‘reset’ or something do we can easily flate earth and start again.

Synchronization is complex, and most synchronization in the RSS world basically assumes “I use this account as the source of truth for subscriptions” and not “we pass around OPML and merge and figure things out”. Using OPML like that is basically “hard mode” and is meant for service portability, but folks don’t assume that you’re trying to actively, simultaneously maintain two sources of truth. It’s doable, but like squares the complexity of the problem.
Fully agree Jason - if it was easy then most of the readers out there would do it - and they do not. In fact I THINK that even the couple of times I have stumbled across such an offer - it isn’t really a synch.
That said I am used to seeing upload/download an OPML file - all off local files.
Micro Blog asks for a public URL of the OPML - which is an additional step for a user (we really need a better word) - so I assumed - wrongly - that the extra step meant there was a clever bennie associated.
No worries - I will continue with the import and export - though for my taste - NetNewsReader is probably my real home - I just ‘wander’ sometimes.
