Incorrect ISBNs

It seems like most (maybe all?) of the books I click on in micro.blog pass the wrong ISBN on to bookshop, amazon, goodreads, etc. Here’s an example: https://micro.blog/books/9781472961372. The ISBN on amazon or bookshop seems to be 9781472961389.

Am I missing something?

I strongly suspect this book has multiple prints/editions with different ISBNs. The book record you chose when selecting it was like an edition no longer in print. You can edit books or add them by ISBN specifically.

I run into this everywhere I document book data and it’s quite common. The only way to ensure the version you reference is a version currently for sale is to search on a store first and use the ISBN of the edition on that store front.

I did this for years with Bookshop and found it pointless— I consistently run into the edition that was on Bookshop is no longer available. It stinks, but because ISBNs are per edition and not canonical to a published work, we have to live this way.

That makes sense. I wonder if micro.blog should pass the book title as the search term, rather than the ISBN? I can’t seem to find a single book in the Discover feed or on my bookshelves that returns the correct result when I click on the bookshop/amazon/goodreads/etc links.
