I’m a relatively new user who is having difficulty understanding inconsistencies in themes. It seems that when I find a theme that has one problem (always formatting photos in 300x300 resolution ignoring original size e.g.), another crops up (ignoring the <!—more—> tag). Are there no uniform requirements for themes so that they all do the same basic things and respect HTML or Markdown tags in the same way? It makes trying to choose a theme very difficult. Thanks for any responses.
There are no explicit, outspoken requirements that I’m aware of. (Correct me if I’m wrong, @manton.)
Micro.blog provides default templates that come into effect if third-party theme developers forget (or choose not) to add their own variants. Additionally, there’s a partial template that most, if not all, themes use. This ensures that essential Micro.blog features, such as RSS feeds and plug-ins, function properly.
Beyond that, third-party theme developers are basically free to do whatever they want.
Thanks for the information. If I had more knowledge of CSS I assume I could modify the code of any theme, but it does make it difficult to choose a theme that has all the elements I need. Previewing them all one by one is a chore.
