Images in newsletters

I had noticed images were inconsistently broken in Micro.blog newsletters. I may have a hint on what’s going on. In my case images hotlinked to Glass are broken but images hotlinked to Letterboxd are not. However Glass images are hyperlinked but Letterboxd ones are not

Both images are imported to Micro.blog as posts. I still think if instead of hyperlinking, images were downloaded and hosted on Micro.blog, it would be best.

This is almost certainly because Glass hyperlinks to the original content in the RSS feed you use to post, and Letterboxd doesn’t. Email and HTML support is notoriously a pain in the ass.

Yup. That’s what I’m thinking too. I wouldn’t mind if Micro.blog somehow removed the hyperlink. Better still, the solution I have asked for would be best.

I wonder if it’s a DMA issue to allow someone to copy media like that directly and automatically.

I think we may have discussed this before. Matt Birchler’s web app for movie ratings does this although manually

Re: Glass, well, they’re my photos so don’t think DMCA applies.

This issue seems to have resolved itself unless Micro.blog did something in the backend. Both hotlinked, images with hyperlinks and those without, displayed correctly in today’s newsletter
