I joined because I wanted to try out a Family plan, but after registering for an account, I don’t see it as an option when I look at the options for a plan despite all the references to it online.
Has this option been removed, or am I just not looking in the right place?

Oops, thanks for letting us know! I’ll fix this today. When starting with Micro.one, to keep the layout simple we only show the 3 plans, so the family plan is hidden.
If you want to switch right away, send a quick email to help@micro.blog and I’ll upgrade your account. The family plan is $15/month, includes 5 members, 5 blogs, and everything else in Micro.blog Premium.
I’ve updated this so there’s now a link (inside the Premium box) to the show the family plan option.
