Epilogue -> The Story Graph link?

Hello! I wonder if we could have Epilogue link to The Story Graph for each book, https://app.thestorygraph.com/? It’s much more indie and innovative than, say, Goodreads and Amazon (which are essentially the same thing anyway).

Thanks for the suggestion. I think linking to StoryGraph is a good idea. They don’t have an API but it looks like we could link to a search for the ISBN.

I’ve resisted adding a lot of options because the menu is going to get big. But maybe we could have a preference to only show the services that people want to frequently use.

Cool, sounds good! Furthermore, what do you think about allowing users to link to their Story Graph or Goodreads profiles? Or maybe allowing users to import their books from Story Graph / Goodreads to Epilogue? At least the former has an export API once you’re logged in.

You can import from The Story Graph. I’ll have to search for the minimum information in an upload, but basically as long as you have an ISBN column you’re pretty solid.

Title, Author, Date Read, ISBN13 (or ISBN or Book Id), Bookshelves (or Shelf)

API is on their long-term roadmap - but it looks like it’s been there for years.

Yeah, I’m not hopeful that we’ll see a StoryGraph API after reading that discussion.

Long term I think many of these book services will be a dead end. We’ll do what we can to support them, but for integrations we are going to lean more on the Internet Archive’s Open Library. That’s the best chance of having an open, central place for managing books.

I just tried importing from The Story Graph but it didn’t work. None of my 181 books came through, it says it couldn’t find their ISBN. Here’s a sample of my file, in case anyone wants to take a look: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10d16YAHnhhruNfwQdtffxCSGn1eAxM7HsrWfE5UVZJo/edit?usp=drivesdk

I think a one-off import would be just fine, no need for an API to keep the data permanently in sync.
