Crossposting: Bluesky vs. Mastodon

Bluesky crossposts include images and alt text, but Mastodon cross posts don’t.

This relates to a post earlier this year about differences in behavior regarding links.

The discrepancies feel unnecessarily idiosyncratic, but maybe there’s an API reason. It would be nice if the behavior was more similar and, in cases when it’s not, the inconsistencies are more clearly communicated.

I’m pretty sure images and alt texts are supposed to cross-post to Mastodon too. Do you have an example of one of your blog posts that didn’t cross-post with the image and alt text correctly, so we can troubleshoot?

I usually do the cross-posting after the fact and edit as necessary before hitting send. I’ll try to pay more attention in order to offer examples in future, in case they are somehow exceptions.

BTW, when I use the MB cross-post button, Bluesky cross-posting returns me to the post in the MB post list after a successful cross post. But Mastodon leaves me on a blank Mastodon posting page, and I have to navigate back to the posts list. It’s a little thing, but noticeable.
