Cross posting to Bluesky doesn't work

I promise I don’t mean this to sound dumb or trolling, but: if I set up a feed to crosspost to Bluesky, then when I make a post on my micro blog, it should…show up on Bluesky, yes? Like, that’s the idea, right?

I can’t figure out why I’m doing wrong. I’ve had Mastodon cross posting running for ages and when I post on my blog the same post appears on my Mastodon account at social.coop.

Is there an extra hoop to jump through for Bluesky that I don’t know about?

Hi, are there any issues you encounter, or any messages in the log to be worth looking into? There have been some issues related to that a couple of days ago but by now it seems to be working again for most of “us”… .
(Edit, too, as I’m unsure about that: Did it work for you before and just break now, or did it never work so far?)

No, not having any issues. As in, no error messages or anything like that. The setup seems seamless but the execution never happens. It’s never worked for me, not once, that’s why I was confused about how it was supposed to happen. It seems so obvious but then it never actually crossposts.

I’ve only had to do the dance once to connect it and it cross posts just like Mastodon. Might be an issue with your log in, have you tried disabling and reenabling with a fresh log in? Is Bluesky clicked in on as a crosspost option?

I checked your account @hollie and I’m not seeing anything obviously wrong… What you expect is what should happen, mostly the same as Mastodon.

Do you mind if I try manually triggering a post to Bluesky from your latest post? I can more directly trace what it’s doing and hopefully track down the problem. If you’d rather I don’t do that, post a message here whenever you post again and I’ll try to troubleshoot further.

It sounds like some kind of authorization issue. Note that if you enabled 2-factor auth in Bluesky, you’ll need to generate an app-specific password on your Bluesky account and use that when signing in to Micro.blog.

@manton - Cross-posting to Bluesky also isn’t working for me. I posted to Micro.blog, and the post pretty much immediately cross-posted to Mastodon, but 2 hours later it’s still not on Bluesky. No 2FA on my Bluesky account and my Sources page on Micro.blog has a Disable link next to Bluesky, so it looks like it’s connected okay.

Hope OP doesn’t mind me pigging backing their post - I didn’t want to create multiples with same issue.

@markavey I checked your latest post and it is only set to cross-post to Mastodon, not Bluesky. Sounds like it was somehow un-selected for Bluesky. Perhaps that’s the issue that other folks are seeing too, where it’s not even trying to cross-post.

Did you use the website or app to post?

Hi @manton . I used the iPhone app. My Source settings are as follows:

Do I need to set anything else? I don’t remember doing anything other than adding my account for Mastodon and that seems to work fine.

Also, in the iPhone app Settings I’ve got ticks next to Cross-posting for both Mastodon and Bluesky.

Thanks.

You’ve got everything right. I think this might be a bug in the iPhone app where it doesn’t recognize which services are enabled until you show the cross-posting settings screen. I bet it will work from now on. But I’m digging into this to confirm.

My 2FA isn’t turned on at Bluesky (it’s never been enabled). I have my link to Bluesky set up but I do notice that there isn’t any option for it in my cross-posting tick boxes (see photo). That’s a screenshot from my iMac, not my iPhone. The only option is for Mastodon.

Also, sure, @manton you’re welcome to push the last post (or any post) to test it.

I see what’s happening. @hollie there is a duplicate feed in your account, one set to Mastodon and one set to Bluesky. I’m going to merge these back to a single feed and then everything should work again.

Thanks so much @manton, it’s working now!

Excellent, glad that fixed it. I’m going to add some kind of warning to detect this situation in the future so it doesn’t trip anyone else up.
