Please do point me to anything that explains what I’m asking about!
Do post summaries only appear in the micro.blog timeline? I was hoping they could be used as short-form post for crossposting to say Bluesky, leading back to the full post on micro.blog. But it seems like BlueSky just picks up a mangled version (ie raw html) of the title and truncated full length post.
I’m probably misunderstanding how it works, but I’m not sure what the use case would be for summaries as they currently work.
If the platform you are using supports link cards, the summaries will appear with the link. For example on Mastodon:
Notice the body is my full summary, while the link has the first part of the summary truncated.
Thanks.
That’s not quite what I’m getting on Bluesky:
It’s completely up to Bluesky on how the link is rendered in a post. It appears they just aren’t doing it nicely.
Okay. So essentially, there’s no way to do what I want to do in that case? #reasonstoignoreBlueSky are stacking up.
Basically. the way posts are formatted are normally based on the OpenGraph meta tags that are included with your post. micro.pub is generating og:description, og:title and og:image. It appears that BlueSky is ignoring the og:description—which is generated based on your post summary.
Nothing you can do about that, other than making certain you have summaries in your posts.
Thanks. At least it’s not me…

BTW - one thing to double check on your side is the OpenGraph style selection under the Design section of your site. It shouldn’t affect anything, but you might set it (if it isn’t) to be certain:

It was set, but I noticed that it was set to ‘web preview’ rather than ‘title + summary’, which is closer to what I want. Changed that now and I’ll experiment a bit.
Thanks again.

UPDATE:
This now does exactly what I need it to. Thanks!
