Book Search Broken (for adding a book)

I use the Bookshelves feature via the website, and the last few days, when I go to search for a book I’ve finished to add to a shelf, the book search returns nothing. I’ve searched for some pretty broad topics/titles, and never get a response.

This is in Safari (both macOS and iOS)

Mine is broken too. It’s been broken for weeks on Epilogue and browser.

It seems to be working only with a properly formatted ISBN 13. Searching by author, title, and ISBN-10 doesn’t return any results for me.

I’m looking into this. In the past, we’ve sometimes had temporary limits imposed by Google Books, and then it’ll start working again. This seems more widespread.

This appears to be rate-limiting by Google. Search is working again for me today. We have also tried using Open Library for search, so I’m going to see if we can use that more as a fallback. Unfortunately the catalog is just not as complete.

I’ve changed our backend for book search again, now leaning more on the ISBNdb service instead of Google.
