Any reason I can't use Micro.blog as my main website?

This is a very basic question, I know, but I’m just asking in case I’m missing something!

For a long time I have had a very basic Wordpress site elsewhere, with a load of static pages, a contact form and a sign up for my largely dormant email newsletter.

So my questions is simply is there any reason why I can’t do all this within micro.blog?

I’ve moved most of the stuff already. Embedding a contact from Letterbird has worked fine. And if I upgraded my account I could, I presume, use the email capability within micro.blog. I have set up various static pages for the books which I write.

All I would be missing is a bit of fancy layout options on the main page. Which is no great loss. (Well, that and the fact that Wordpress seems to be run by an increasingly… er… ‘eccentric’ individual.)

But am I missing something? Is there, for example, any limit on the number of pages as opposed to posts? I know it will all look a bit more basic. But that’s the point, really.

Whatever the case, thank you so much for micro.blog. It has got me back into blogging again, after many years.

No, but it depends on how you define “within Micro.blog.” As you’ve noticed, Micro.blog doesn’t include a built-in contact form, so you’ll need to use a third-party service to add one.

That said, as long as you’re okay with using third-party tools now and then, you can build just about any website you can imagine with Micro.blog.

It really depends on the theme. In theory, a theme could offer a lot of settings to customize your homepage. And if you’re comfortable with HTML and Hugo templates (or willing to learn), Micro.blog gives you full control over the HTML output for your homepage—and other pages, too.

Check out @heyloura’s homepage for a fancy example of what’s possible with a custom theme on Micro.blog.

No, I don’t think you’re missing anything, and as far as I know, there’s no limit to the number of pages you can have. That said, managing hundreds or thousands of pages might get tricky, since the user interface isn’t really designed for that scale.

Holy Mackarel I had no idea that Loura’s site was a Micro Blog site. The must be the most customised site I have ever seen.

In support of @sod 's remarks about pages I am at about 30 pages - and it is a little too limiting for me to manage - so in process of moving a number of those pages to my world of Craft where i already have ‘non site’ public facing docs and just keep pages in MicroBlog that need to be tightly integrated - also MB redirects very useful for that kind of operation.

Thanks very much for your help and the clarification. I’m not going to be hosting many pages so I think this will work fine. And for me the whole point of using micro.blog is to get back to a small web approach and keep things simple. (Also I use MarsEdit which makes organising things a lot easier.)
